Marco Rubio

I became a member of Palm Beach Indivisibles this week, and at least some of us wrote a letter to Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a Republican lackey (sorry for the redundancy), decrying President Trump’s (ooh, it hurts to say that) deplorable choices of leaders for his administration

Dear Sen. Rubio,

Donald Trump has set about wrecking this nation, ruining many decades of progress and immeasurably harming our reputation across the globe. On every front, he is proving disastrous for the United States and for those people and nations that look up to our country as a beacon of hope.

President Donald Trump

Scott Pruitt

Our planet is in grave danger as President Trump embarks on plans to walk back the advances we have made in the last eight years toward reining in fossil fuel use, to the detriment not only of the United States but of the entire world. His appointment of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to head the EPA, which he has fought hard to undermine, is clear notice that Trump intends to drastically lower environmental standards on behalf of profits for corporations.

Steve Bannon

Jeff Sessions

White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is a white nationalist who will enthusiastically support Trump’s racist agenda, and there is great danger that Attorney General Jeff Sessions will do likewise. These appointments, along with Trump’s executive order banning, at least temporarily, refugees from Middle Eastern countries will only exacerbate the radicals’ hatred of us, serving as a recruitment incentive for terrorist organizations and greatly jeopardizing our nation’s security.

Rex Tillerson

Your vote to approve Rex Tillerson for secretary of state, Sen. Rubio, was a huge disappointment for all who are concerned about both his close, favorable ties to Russia and his complete lack of governmental experience. This is the man who would have to deal with the leaders of the world. I strongly urge you to reconsider your support for him and cast a nay vote, which would be consistent with your disapproval of him in the hearing that vetted him.

Tom Price

As head of Health and Human Services, Tom Price likely would continue to display the serious conflicts of interest he has repeatedly been involved in with drug and medical device companies that he has invested in while chairing the House Ways and Means Committee and serving on the subcommittee on Medicare. Likewise, he would collaborate with Paul Ryan to undercut Medicare and Medicaid, and cause health-care insurance costs to rise through the dismantling of the Affordable Care Act.

Steve Mnuchin

Goldman Sachs alumnus Steve Mnuchin as Treasury secretary has said he favors dismantling Dodd-Frank, which again would allow reckless and dangerous lending by banks.

Betsy DeVos

Betsy DeVos would inflict untold harm on our public education system by greatly expanding the use of vouchers for attendance at charter schools, which costs taxpayers a lot.

Multibillionaire Wilbur Ross’ pick as Commerce secretary is another example of a man with a checkered business history. He has been a longtime supporter of Trump, and can be counted on to approve his plans for curtailing trade with other nations, thus harming our economy.

James Mattis

I could continue down the list, but suffice it to say that President Trump’s choices to run our government are riddled with corruption and have their own interests, rather than those of the American people, at heart. Retired Marine General James Mattis, selected to head the Defense Department, may be the only acceptable choice.

We hope that, as one of our two senators from Florida, you will hold the feet of these Trump picks to the fire, doing everything in your power to make them accountable to the American people.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Robert Brink
