Green isn’t green.

Alex Green, the chief analyst for the Oxford Club investment newsletter service, defends the Monsanto corporation in its production of genetically modified foods, or organisms. There is no evidence that GMOs are dangerous to health, and much evidence that they are helping to feed a world that has too little food for its ever-growing population, he insists. He joins so-called scientific experts in showing disdain for the skeptics. Of course, Monsanto is one of the stocks in his recommended portfolio.

Now comes a report from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, an arm of the World Health Organization, that glyphosate, the chief ingredient in Monsanto’s insecticide called Roundup, doubles the risk that persons exposed to it will develop non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Most GMO crops were developed to resist the harmful effects of Roundup. Two farmers have filed lawsuits against Monsanto.

A farmer in the United Kingdom set a record recently for yield of a crop which was not genetically modified.

The cancer agency’s report was issued in March and confirmed in July despite Monsanto’s protestation that the study was based on “junk science.” I read my daily newspaper, the Palm Beach Post, assiduously, yet never saw a word about it, learning the news instead on the Internet. This is the sort of dereliction of duty to inform the public on health issues that is common in today’s media.

GMO and glyphosate symbiotic

The Environmental Protection Agency classified glyphosate as possibly carcinogenic in 1985. Nonetheless, the EPA approved Monsanto’s use of the chemical in 2013. More than 80 percent of the genetically modified crops throughout the world, in large part corn and soybeans, were manufactured to be used with Roundup so that crops could survive the harmful effects of the herbicide, the website Global Research reported. It added that more than 750 products containing glyphosate are sold in the United States alone, and said, “It would logically follow that the majority of our food supply is now contaminated by a cancer-causing agent(s).”

The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health published a study in 2014 claiming that a link was found between glyphosate and a fatal kidney disease that rice farmers in Sri Lanka and other nations have been contracting. That nation has banned the chemical, and Brazil is considering doing the same.

Alternative doctor sounds alarm

David Brownstein, M.D.

“The official confirmation that the chemical used in GMO food production likely causes cancer should be setting off alarm bells in every level of government,” said Dr. David Brownstein, an internationally recognized alternative physician from Michigan. “The potential human toll – and financial costs – are simply staggering. And yet this report is being largely ignored by regulators who have both the power and the duty to protect the public.” Brownstein reported that U.S. farms use more than 1,400 tanker cars of Roundup every year on GMO crops. The chemicals used to make it include formaldehyde, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, and sulfuric acid. Glyphosate is corrosive to iron.

“Does that sound like something you want to have … in your body … or sprayed year after year on America’s croplands?” Brownstein asks.

Official sources untrustworthy

With the media giving scant attention to disturbing health developments such as this, it’s no wonder most people are unaware of them. If we want to protect our health, we cannot trust the government or corporate interests to look out for us. Too much money is involved. We must look to independent health researchers and physicians to alert us to the dangers that lurk in our food supply and environment.
